Project Partners

Our project partners include:
+community and civic associations,
+outdoor enthusiasts,
+garden clubs,
+history groups and other citizen based groups whose primary interest is to maintain, restore, preserve or improve public resources across Whatcom County.

Through our partnership, they can raise funds under our non-profit umbrella and begin to promote themselves as a credible entity. As these partnerships grow and become self-sufficient, they can apply for their own non-profit status and become independent of our foundation. If you think your organization might benefit from a partnership with WPRF, please contact us at info@wprfoundation.org, or (360) 389-3803, and we will send you a partner application.

Student work on garden beds for Center for Local Self-Reliance
Students help out at the Center for Local Self-Reliance,
a project partner and grantee of WPRF.

Ken Hertz Gateway - This gateway arching over the Lake Whatcom north shore trailhead was built in honor of our former Bellingham Mayor and constructed by the Whatcom County Parks Department.  Numerous donors contributed over $22,000 to make this project possible.

Squires Lake – A generous donation of $300,000 was made to help purchase Squire Lake.  This Whatcom County Park features a trail winding around the lake and beaver pond and up to a forested ridge offering views of Samish Lake and the Skagit valley.

Woodstock Farm – Private donations through the Foundation have aided in the City of Bellingham’s efforts to preserve this historic landmark situated within the South Chuckanut Bay Greenway.

Big Rock Sculpture Garden – Overlooking Lake Whatcom atop Alabama hill, this park combines nature and art.  Over 35 works by distinguished international and local artists sit nestled among the ever-changing foliage.  Grants have been made to Bellingham City Parks for a Horticultural Therapy Program and to the Homeport Learning Center to help make the Greenhouses wheelchair accessible.  The acquisition of sculptures has also been funded.

Bay to Baker Trail – The Mt Baker Club received a $5,000 REI grant for trail enhancement along the seven-mile Bay-to-Baker trail and chose WPRF as it’s fiduciary agent.  Volunteer work parties planted trees along the trail near the new Boulder Creek Bridge and the last half-mile leading to the Glacier trailhead.

Josh Vanderyacht Park – Constructed by Bill Vanderyacht as a memorial to his son Josh, this park was made possible by numerous donors who raised $60,000.  Located in Van Zandt, the park offers an attractive outdoor gathering place for youth and adults.

Tennant Lake Interpretive Center – Through educational programs the Tennant Lake Interpretive Center promoted awareness, appreciation and conservation of wetlands.  Donations by area corporations and the Friends of Tenant Lake made these programs possible.

Fragrance Garden – Donations by the Northwest Garden Club support the maintenance and operations of the Fragrance Garden at Tennant Lake.  The garden consists of over 300 square feet of raised beds brimming with a variety of plants to please the senses.

Marietta Veterans Park – Community members wanted a space for neighbors to gather and children to play.  The project was completed in partnership with the Bellingham Sunrise Rotary, Lummi Indian Nation and Northwest Indian College.  Overlooking the Nooksack River, the park features playground equipment as well as totem poles by carver Jewell James.

Memorial Park – Radio station KGMI generated the Memorial Park Project Fund to create a granite monument and plaza honoring local fallen military personnel since 1900.  With donations from individuals and businesses, the Sunnyland neighborhood project was completed and dedicated in November 2005.  A fund administered by the WPRF is used to maintain and enhance the memorial under the auspices of the Bellingham Parks and Recreation Department.

Mother’s Memorial Fund – The Mother’s Walk is an organization providing support to mothers who have lost children.  Monies donated help to create a sculpture in a local cemetery as a place for grieving parents to heal.

Hovander Homestead Park – An arbor was built and trees and shrubs planted as a result of a number of memorial contributions made to the Foundation.

Nesset Farm – A $3,000 annual donation was made by the Whatcom Community Foundation to provide for the maintenance and protection of structures on the site.

Semiahmoo Park – A memorial bench was installed, resulting from a specified donation.

Sunset Farm Equestrian Center – Equipment was donated for dressage, the arena, trains, and jumps.
